For logos and illustrations I often start with an isometric grid. It creates a natural balance within whatever shape or figure I'm trying to create. That approach was used to carve out the K of my initials.
The result was a gem shaped / black letter style typeface that could be broken down over and over again to create new shapes used for illustrations.
For color, I wanted to make something classic but slightly updated. This was my own take on a primary color scheme.
